David in Saul's service

Chapters 11 & 12 in Hebrews talk about some of the the towering personalities in the Old Testament who lived by faith. They hadn't received the fullness of God's promise in Jesus, but they continued on expectantly. Hebrews is a letter reminding Christians to do likewise: follow those great examples.

From the Contemporary English Version (CEV) Hebrews 11:1 - 12: 3. Animated in Flash.

You can get an mp4 of this video to download on my Gumroad store:

Cain and Abel

Moses in Egypt

The fall of Jericho

Daniel

Matthew 28: Jesus' Great Commission

Jesus' disciples saw him do many amazing things, but the most amazing was seeing him risen from the dead! What should they do in response? This cartoon is based on Matthew 28:16-20.

You can get this colouring book and the accompanying short cartoon on my Gumroad:

Hebrews 11 Character designs: Round one

I'm starting work on a new cartoon on Hebrews 11 & 12: Heroes of faith! So I need to draw lots of OT characters. Here's a first pass:

Right now I'm thinking that Cain, Abel and Enoch need something a bit more ancient-looking. Animal skins and stuff. They were living in primitive times after all!

The Big Buyback

I made this short comic a while back (2008?) - it was printed in an anthology of Christian comics. I still like these characters. I wanted to show what the idea of redemption might look like these days.
1 Peter 1:18 - We were redeemed from our old life not with cash, but with the life of Jesus.

On a side note, I had a flatmate who would sell his stuff at the Cash Converters to pay the rent and then buy it back after his next pay day. A very expensive way to live!
Anyway, let me know if you'd like to see more comics.

Some Jesus toons

Demons and Pigs.
Jesus goes to cure a man of his demon infestation. But where will all the demons go? This is a short cartoon I made for the Max7 website. They gave me a selection of Bible verses to work from and this one from Luke 8:26-39 jumped out at me.

Lazarus raised.
This is my second Jesus film. The narration is taken straight from John chapter 11 in the Contemporary English Version. It’s pretty much a straight re-telling of the story of Jesus resurrecting Lazarus to life again. Narration by Matt Wills. I hope you enjoy it!

Daniel and the king's dreams

This is a video clip to POD's 'Sleeping Awake'. Based on Daniel chapters 1-6. I liked the idea of the song, but felt it had drifted from it's original meaning after it featured in the Matrix film. I tried to animate what I felt the band intended when they wrote/ performed it.

BANG!

The audio is part of a Christian/ atheist debate hosted by St Barnabas, Broadway, in Sydney. The argument goes that there must have been something uncreated to start the universe, which had a beginning. How can something come from nothing? This doesn't tell us much about God (nothing here about the Trinity, forgiveness, etc), but it’s a start. References Genesis 1:1-3.
Thanks to Luke Glanville for the (brief) track and to William Lane Craig for lending his voice. Made in Adobe Flash.

Memory Game

For a Sunday School game, I made these pictures to illustrate different verses in the Gospels. They were made into a set of memory cards with the corresponding verse as the matching pair. I've listed what I think are the matching verses in the comments section below.

The labourers in the yard

Another piece of work featuring an old crone. I used a bit more artistic licence on this one, transferring the scenario in the parable from a vineyard owner to an old lady who needs her yard fixed up. Jesus' point in the parable is that God's love isn't fair, it's outrageously indiscriminate. Based on Matthew 20.

On an autobiographical note, I remember as a kid being roped into other peoples schemes and set to work without really wanting to be there. I wonder if kids today have to put up with that!

The Persistent Widow

A modern re-telling of Jesus' parable of the poor widow and the heartless judge. If she could pester this guy enough and get what she was after, isn't a caring God going to answer much more quickly than that! Narration: Luke 18:1-8.

Birth of Jesus

My wife wanted some pictures to put on her blog for Christmas 2011. The idea was that parents could do Advent-calendar-style activities with their kids, and colouring in my pictures was one of the activities. Well I eventually decided to colour them myself.

Random pictures

A bunch of pictures people have asked for: Abraham, the guy from Jesus' colourful harangue (swallowing a camel and straining the gnat), and some worried livestock for a Bible study booklet on Leviticus. And so on.

Exodus

A friend asked if I could make a series of pictures for a Powerpoint presentation he was going to show at youth group. He was basically telling the story of the exodus. I had some time on my hands so this is what I came up with:
